Water was the first really big political issue in
California and probably will be the last.

 https://calmatters.org/commentary/2021/11/groundwater-management-drought-california-agriculture/

Is the Central Valley better used as farmland or as suburbs
for Silicon Valley? Are thirsty annual crops like
cotton and rice, that can not be planted in dry years,
a better choice than perennials like almonds and grapes,
that have to be watered every year once planted?

Who gets to decide how local governments implement state,
national, or global priorities?

 https://calmatters.org/commentary/2021/11/california-housing-crisis-political-bonta-initiative/

State governments are not a federation of local
governments, though both can be manipulated by clever
professional initiative efforts.

But climate change trumps all levels of government,
especially for population and housing - where's the water
coming from?

California high speed rail -

 https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/10/27/opinion-bay-area-needs-high-speed-rail-its-time-to-finish-it/

If it's ever finished, people will wonder why we didn't
do it sooner.

If it's never finished, people will wonder why we ever
started.

It works better in densely populated Europe and Japan. If
that is the future of Silicon Valley, better get it done.
But will the water be there to support dense populations?

Water might be the fatal flaw in California high speed
rail.

Would somebody please tell the third-place California GOP
that they have lost the suburbs?

 https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/09/17/look-at-how-dramatically-california-changed-and-where-in-the-18-years-since-the-last-recall/

When Orange County went blue, the end was nigh. Trump
might be a campaign feature in places like Wyoming and
Alabama, but he's a campaign bug in California. There
just aren't enough cowboys, roughnecks, and confederates
to win fairly, and the legislature is 2/3 Democratic,
so GOP can't win unfairly by gerrymandering or voter
suppression as they do in Trump country. And the only
election fraud is the GOP's phony claims of election fraud.

If he were 20 years younger, Arnold Schwarzenegger could
have given Newsom a run for his money. But Arnold
is not a Trumpist, and neither Trump nor the GOP would
have supported him. That probably would have helped
his campaign.

How many clowns can stuff themselves into a California
recall ballot? 46, or your choice of write-in.
Democrats will vote against the recall, but if it passes,
they can vote for one of the clowns.

GOP across nation endorse Newsom recall - EXCEPT
California's own GOP House reps.

 https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article250793854.html

Something dumb said now might haunt their own tight
re-elections next year -

Newsom dined at a French restaurant when small businesses
suffered under lockdown, then sent his kids to private
school

Those were mistakes any Republican would make. But more
Republicans in office in California and it could be just
like Michigan and Texas!

In 2000, California Republicans were able to recall
governor Gray Davis by blaming him for the power failures
caused in Texas by deregulated Enron Texans, and by running
celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger as replacement.

Arnie was elected and tried to do a good job.

In 2021, California Republicans hope to recall governor
Gavin Newsom by blaming him for virus lockdowns caused in
DC by deregulating DJT. Their conscientious proposed
celebrity replacement is... who?

 https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/03/30/want-to-understand-the-gavin-newsom-recall-look-to-wisconsin-not-california/

The GOP is now third place in California after no party
preference so their work is cut out. They can't win
a statewide general election so they have to work special
elections and hope for low Democratic turnout -

 https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/03/31/opinion-the-real-reason-newsom-is-the-target-of-a-recall/

So far, it's not working. Newsom seems likely to easily
win by campaigning against Trump's viral incompetence and
subsequent GOP voter suppression efforts. It's no
different than all those GOP candidates all over the
country running against AOC.

 https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/03/30/newsom-would-survive-recall-vote-comfortably-if-the-election-were-today-new-poll-finds/

Although California is doing better against the virus
than the anything-goes red states, the tide could turn
if too many people get careless too soon, especially in
Southern California.

By the way, all those Californians moving to Texas to
enjoy Greg Abbott's Republican deregulated electricity
market and Dixiecrat voter suppression don't seem to be
depressing the local housing market -
