Average salaries are keeping pace with average inflation in California, but not everybody is average. The alleged recession is fake news in the US, though real enough in many other countries. But swing voters that don't follow politics closely usually just vote their pocketbook feelings, whether based on fact or fantasy. They've mostly forgotten the slow recovery from the 2008-2009 recession. No matter who wins the election, they'll take credit if inflation happens to go down, and blame the other party if it happens to go up.
