Whatever happened to Elon Musk?

 https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/18/opinions/elon-musk-soros-conspiracy-theories-ghitis/index.html

No mystery - like many billionaires, once he made his
billions he changed from a prophet of the future to a
defender of (his) status quo - via minority rule.

It's an old story. His descendants will probably be
even worse, believing themselves entitled to wealth and
power by the will of God. Just ask Job's friends.

The precursor to Trump was chosen by God or DeSantis or
Putin or Stalin or Hitler or ... was chosen by God -

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2022-credos.html#trump

was political leaders and cooperating clergy inventing a
Divine Right of Kings -

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_right_of_kings#Catholic_justification_for_the_divine_right_of_kings

Indeed Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors condemns the notion
that It is lawful to refuse obedience to legitimate
princes, and even to rebel against them

 https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/syllabus-of-errors-9048

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syllabus_of_Errors

It was all in a vain desire for immortality by mortal
means -

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozymandias

though all the emperors who declared themselves gods died
like everybody else.

In reality, of course, political leaders typically chose
themselves of their own free will, and dynasties were often
founded by a founder willing to murder all his rivals.
America's founders followed English and French philosophers
in rejecting divine right of kings as contrary to their
Enlightenment ideals.

Culture wars have united reactionary megadonors who don't
like how a complex modern industrial democracy works, with
reactionary blue-collar voters who don't understand how
a complex modern industrial democracy works - it depends
on a lot of educated expertise.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/01/understanding-electorate-diploma-divide/

They can not like it but they can't come up with a
plausible alternative, either.

What happens when politicians give single-issue
constituencies what they want? They want MORE!

Even Trump has figured out that being vaguely pro-life is
better than being specific. Anything definite is going
to be used against you by one side or the other.

 https://apnews.com/article/abortion-constitutional-amendment-ohio-election-messaging-e578a62dd968a5112f92563e969ce5c7

With Trump, of course, we know that he won't do anything
except photo-ops; it will be up tp McConnell and McCarthy
to try to get something through Congress if they think
it's feasible.

Will the single-issue constituencies eventually figure
out that the ruling class doesn't really care about their
issues, only about keeping control of Congress and state
legislatures to accomplish their real goal - smaller
government? Measured by reducing taxes and regulation
on the rich and reducing benefits and freedom for the poor.
