The GOP identity crisis is nothing new -

 https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/17/opinions/gop-house-majority-midterm-election-2022-dent/index.html

and it defeated Cantor, Boehner, and Ryan.

GOP is now more populist, working class and performative,
thanks to Trump’s shattering of its internationalist,
corporate legacy. At least in public.

 https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/17/politics/republican-party-2024-identity-crisis-analysis/index.html

But the money talks in private - some big GOP donors are
already voting with their wallets - toward traditional
megadonor goals.

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2022-credos.html#gop

And if Murdoch has moved on,

 https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/16/politics/new-york-post-trump-2024-announcement/index.html

how much of the Trump base will he bring with him?
At least Trump will still have Newsmax and OAN and RT and
Truth Social.

Trying to beat the rap again!

 https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-2024-updates-cd5339d48064a149527e8f9a1aa7614e

Trump hopes that by announcing now he won't be indicted.
But it's been two years since he has been president and at
least two years before he can be president again - plenty
of time for indictment, trial, conviction, and sentencing.

And of course, he wants to beat his rivals to the media
attention and the donors. Boosting Trump is more
important to Trump than boosting the GOP by shutting
up until after the runoffs - because he IS the GOP!
With winners like Andy Biggs and Rick Scott on his team,
how can he lose?

According to Fox, Democrats say bring him on!

a true leader knows when they have become a liability to
the mission

For Trump, the mission IS Trump!

Republicans are asking why he insisted on holding a
rally in Pennsylvania and teasing his own 2024 campaign
announcement, putting the focus on him in the race’s
final days

Why? Because it's all about Trump, all the time!
That's what a cult of personality is. All those who
vocally or silently enabled a cult share blame for the
consequences in the election.

'Of a truly great leader, the people say we did it

Reactionary Supreme Court does its duty to protect
minority rule.

 https://apnews.com/article/us-supreme-court-donald-trump-business-john-roberts-congress-1b2241b1ddae3c9bbc7af28f372fe8a0

Trump's tax dirt, if it ever comes out at all, will be
after the 2022 election, if not 2024. That gives a
GOP Congress time to try to repeal the law that allows
Congress to examine tax returns. Another win for
Trump's run-down-the-clock delay tactics to avoid justice.

Pence is helping Trumpists who were election deniers in
the primary, pretend to be more centrist and rational in
the general. Who knows what any of them REALLY believe,
beyond believing that they should be elected? What's more
Trumpist than that?

 https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-donald-trump-campaigns-presidential-election-2020-497f7d79a175c4a7ade6fc0b8a1d2adf

There was no such thing as a Trump-Pence agenda. There
was just Trump's agenda - promoting Trump - which Pence
faithfully upheld as long as he could.

==

Meanwhile, Ryan predicts Trump won't be GOP nominee
in 2024.

 https://www.foxnews.com/politics/paul-ryan-predicts-trump-not-2024-republican-nominee

He is correct that GOP leaders believe in herd mentality -
once a critical few reject Trump in 2024, the dam will
break and the trickle will be converted overnight into
a torrent.

But as far as Trump and his base are concerned,
the Republican Party IS Trump's Trumpist Dixiecrat
America-First fake-populist kleptocratic personality cult.
And if the Republican Party betrays him by not nominating
him, he'll find or found a party that will nominate him,
to better take revenge.

Mozart conveniently wrote an aria for Trump, La Vendetta -

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va6EVm5dZfc

Tutta Mar-Lago conosce The Donald, il birbo Paul Ryan
vinto sarà! ... il birbo Michael Pence vinto sarà! ...
il birbo DeSantis vinto sarà!

And speaking of trickles turning into torrents, Rossini
wrote a suitable Trump aria too - La Calunnia

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efVWXvxkKB0

With all his problems with unauthorized use of copyrighted
music at his rallies, Trump should consider mining some
of these gems from the public domain.

“Where’s my Roy Cohn?”

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Cohn

Cohn was disbarred weeks before he died of AIDS, abandoned
by Trump, who knew the score on being heartless

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/books/2022/10/03/confidence-man-maggie-haberman-review-trump/

none of it would have been possible but for a social,
cultural, political, media and moral breakdown that
overtook New York beginning in the 1970s, a fiasco of
trusted institutions that, having allowed the Trumpian
virus to grow, failed at every step to contain its spread,
then profited from, aided and even cheered its devastation.

Six newspapers wanted change. They got change.
At least one didn't like the change.

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/09/28/trump-supporter-disappointment/

But Trump never changed. He was a self-serving
opportunist in 2004 and 2014, and intends to do the same
in 2024. Trump didn't blow an opportunity for public
service - that was never his goal. He exploited an
opportunity for self service, which is what he wanted,
about as successfully as his competence would allow -
just as in his previous business and entertainment careers.

What did change during the Trump administration is that he
normalized politics as 24x7 reality-TV self-serving cult
of personality, completely rejecting the Enlightenment
ideals of America's founders, with no concern about
observing precedents from the past or setting precedents
for the future. Trump's ignorance and incompetence meant
that he didn't do as much harm as he might have -

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/09/28/trump-book-white-house-bomb-mexico/

but his normalization means that the next abler, bolder
Trumpist will accomplish much worse. Trump never
understood that he was just another link in the chain
joining his predecessors and successors - and so perhaps
the weakest link of all in a chain that might yet break.

Trump didn't blow his chance. He got elected
and mostly did what he wanted, and he did it his way.
Trump's supporters that wanted change blew their chance
to address their legitimate grievances -

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/trump.html#First%20Trump%20Constituency

by letting Trump conflate them with all the worst impulses
of America's lunatic fringes -

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/trump.html#Second%20Trump%20Constituency

who DID get what they wanted.

And thus they all neatly served the needs of the megadonor
ruling class minority rule -

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2020-minority.html

by trading the chance to objectively improve their lives
for a chance to joust at windmills. They voted for a
reality-TV image of politics and got a reality-TV image
of results - but no change of reality. They could have
chosen somebody like Mike Pence, reactionary enough to suit
the megadonor class and sign off on McConnell's program
of billionaire tax relief, deregulation, and stacking the
judiciary -

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2022-credos.html#gop

without all the gratuitous drama, incompetence, corruption,
violence, and security breaches. Instead they got Hang
Mike Pence!

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king,
but in the land of the insane, the half-wit is hanged. -
Walt Kelly, Pogo, 1960's. Prescient!

Trump's sycophants flattered him by saying he belongs on
Mt Rushmore. But he really belongs on Stone Mountain -

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Mountain

beside the others who betrayed America's ideals.

Too bad Trump never learned leadership from Rickover -

 https://govleaders.org/rickover.htm

One of a leader's most important tasks is dealing
with subordinates who are not succeeding at their job.
The leader must either find a way to help them master it,
or move them to a job they can master. It's not easy,
and Trump apparently didn't bother having those difficult
conversations in reality - only in Reality-TV.

 https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/28/politics/donald-trump-firing-twitter/index.html

For all the bluster, he's a big chicken (or turkey).
That's why it was so easy for foreign dictators to
manipulate him.

For the many wannabes, Trumpism is better without Trump.

 https://www.political-scrapbook.net/2022-credos.html#revisionist

But Trump will run again, even if he's broke and in jail.
If the GOP won't have him, he'll form a third party for
revenge. The big question is when he'll make a formal
announcement - and become subject to campaign finance laws.
Of course, he could just ignore them like other laws he
doesn't like.

To complaints of a job poorly done, one often hears the
excuse, “I am not responsible.” I believe that is
literally correct. The man who takes such a stand in
fact is not responsible; he is irresponsible. While he
may not be legally liable, or the work may not have been
specifically assigned to him, no one involved in a job
can divest himself of responsibility for its successful
completion.

Feeling like Groundhog Day? As long as Trump is able,

That's because McConnell only views Trump as a threat to
